New York City, New York
Prospect Park Lake, located in the southern part of Brooklyn's Prospect Park, is a sprawling 60-acre body of water. It is the only lake in Brooklyn and serves as a central hub for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts in the borough.
The lake is a haven for wildlife, particularly birds, and features several scenic points like the Lullwater and the Peninsula. The Prospect Park Audubon Center is located nearby in the historic Boathouse.
Visitors can enjoy fishing (catch-and-release only), birdwatching, or taking a scenic walk along the 3.5-mile perimeter path. During the warmer months, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside offers boat rentals, including kayaks and pedal boats.
The lake is beautiful year-round, but spring and summer are best for boating and picnics. Fall brings vibrant foliage that reflects beautifully on the water's surface.
Entry to the park and lake area is free. Boat rentals and other activities at the LeFrak Center have separate fees. Check the Prospect Park Alliance website for current hours and seasonal offerings.
The LeFrak Center at Lakeside provides restrooms, a cafe, and equipment rentals. The historic Boathouse also has facilities and educational exhibits.
The lake is a popular spot for dogs, with designated off-leash areas nearby during specific hours. Bring binoculars if you're interested in birdwatching, as the lake attracts over 200 species annually.
Nearby attractions include the Prospect Park Zoo, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Museum.
