Runyon Canyon Park is a 160-acre park located at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, famous for its celebrity sightings and incredible views of Los Angeles. It is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the city, offering a variety of trails that cater to different fitness levels.
The primary highlight of Runyon Canyon is the breathtaking panoramic view from the summit, where you can see the Hollywood Sign, the Griffith Observatory, Downtown LA, and even the Pacific Ocean on clear days. The park is also known for its dog-friendly atmosphere, with large off-leash areas.
Hiking is the main activity, with three primary routes ranging from easy paved paths to challenging dirt trails. It's a great spot for outdoor workouts, photography, and birdwatching. Yoga classes are often held in the grassy area near the Fuller Avenue entrance.
Early morning is the best time to visit to beat the heat and secure a rare parking spot. Sunsets are also spectacular but can be very crowded.
Entry to Runyon Canyon Park is free. The park is open from dawn until dusk daily. There are no entrance fees.
Facilities are minimal to preserve the wilderness feel. There are drinking fountains and occasionally water vendors at the entrances, but there are no public restrooms inside the park.
Parking is extremely difficult in the surrounding residential neighborhoods; consider using a rideshare service. Bring plenty of water, wear sturdy shoes, and be prepared for limited shade on the trails.
Nearby attractions include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Dolby Theatre, and the TCL Chinese Theatre, all located just a short distance south in Hollywood.
