Washington, District of Columbia
The Lincoln Memorial is a national monument built to honor Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Located at the western end of the National Mall, the Greek Doric temple houses a colossal seated statue of Lincoln designed by Daniel Chester French. The walls of the chamber are inscribed with two of Lincoln's most famous speeches: the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address.
The memorial overlooks the Reflecting Pool and offers a direct view of the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. It has been the site of many historic events, most notably Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, making it a powerful symbol of the Civil Rights Movement and national unity.
