The National Gallery of Art is a world-class art museum located on the National Mall, preserving and displaying a vast collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present. The museum is divided into two iconic buildings: the neoclassical West Building, designed by John Russell Pope, which houses European and American masterworks including the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas, Ginevra de' Benci; and the modern East Building, designed by I.M. Pei, which focuses on modern and contemporary art.
The gallery also features a sculpture garden with works by artists like Calder and Lichtenstein. As a gift to the nation, admission is free, allowing the public to explore masterpieces by Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso in a setting of architectural grandeur.
