Capital One Arena is an indoor arena in Washington, D.C., located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. It sits atop the Gallery Place rapid transit station of the Washington Metro. The arena has been the home of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA) since it opened.
Constructed in the mid-1990s, the arena was a catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Washington, D.C. It hosts around 200 events each year, including concerts, family shows, and other sporting events. The venue has a seating capacity of over 20,000 for basketball and over 18,000 for ice hockey.
