Fort Omaha is a historic U.S. Army post located in North Omaha. Established in 1868, it played a key role in the Indian Wars and later served as a balloon school and support installation.
The district includes the General Crook House Museum (an Italianate style mansion), the Standing Bear organizational site, and historic brick buildings now part of Metropolitan Community College.
Tour the General Crook House to see Victorian-era furnishings, walk the parade grounds, and explore the history of the "Standing Bear" trial which happened here.
The General Crook House is open weekdays and some weekends. Spring and summer are lovely for walking the campus grounds.
The campus is open to the public. The General Crook House has a small admission fee. Parking is available on the college campus.
The site is now a college campus with student facilities. The museum has a gift shop and hosts teas and events.
Stop by the Douglas County Historical Society located on the grounds. The architecture is beautiful and well-preserved.
The Florence Mill and the Mormon Trail Center at Historic Winter Quarters are nearby historical sites in North Omaha.
