About

The Seat of Democracy

The United States Capitol is the meeting place of the U.S. Congress and the legislative center of the federal government. Perched atop Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall, its iconic cast-iron dome is a recognized symbol of American democracy. The building houses the chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as a vast collection of American art and history.

Visitors can explore the Capitol Visitor Center, the Crypt, and the Rotunda, which features paintings depicting key scenes from the nation's founding. The Statue of Freedom stands atop the dome, watching over the city and the legislative process within.
