Long Beach, California
Rancho Los Alamitos, the "Ranch of the Little Cottonwoods," is a historic landmark featuring a ranch house, barns, and four acres of gardens. It offers a glimpse into the agricultural history of Southern California.
The site features an ancient Tongva village site, a historic adobe ranch house, and working barns with farm animals like horses and sheep.
Tour the ranch house, visit the barnyard animals, and explore the various themed gardens. It is a great educational experience for both adults and children.
Wednesday through Sunday afternoons are the standard operating hours. Morning visits are great for seeing the animals active.
Admission and parking are free. Visitors must enter through the residential guard gate (just mention you are visiting the Rancho).
There is a gift shop and an education center. Restrooms are available. Most of the gardens and the barn area are wheelchair accessible.
Don't miss the massive Moreton Bay Fig trees. Since it is in a gated community, follow the signs carefully to the entrance.
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is right next door, where you can visit the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.
