About

Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park

Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park preserves an important Civil War site located near the mouth of the St. Johns River. Despite its name, it was not a traditional fort but a fortified encampment constructed in 1862 to defend Jacksonville. The site features preserved earthworks that were once home to both Confederate and Union troops, including the famous 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment.

Today, the park is a quiet, shady spot with a short nature trail and picnic tables. Replicas of cannons and interpretive signs help visitors visualize the history of the encampment. It serves as a memorial to the soldiers who served there and offers a peaceful setting for history enthusiasts to reflect on the area's strategic importance during the Civil War.
