Redding is the county seat of Shasta County, California. Located in the northern part of the Sacramento Valley, it is the regional hub for retail, education, and health services. The city is famous for the Sundial Bridge and as a gateway to outdoor recreation in the Shasta Cascade region.
Redding is situated on the Sacramento River. It has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, with very hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. It is surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west.
The best time to visit Redding is in the spring and fall when temperatures are moderate. Summers can be extremely hot, often exceeding 100°F. Winter is the rainy season but offers access to nearby skiing.
