Austin, Texas
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is the primary international airport serving the Greater Austin metropolitan area. Located about 5 miles southeast of downtown Austin, it covers over 4,200 acres and serves as a major gateway to Central Texas. The airport opened in 1999, replacing the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, and is built on the site of the former Bergstrom Air Force Base.
The airport features two terminals: the main Barbara Jordan Terminal and the smaller South Terminal. The Barbara Jordan Terminal handles the majority of domestic and international flights, offering numerous dining options, live music stages, and art installations that reflect Austin's culture. The South Terminal serves ultra-low-cost carriers and offers a distinct, retro-themed travel experience.
AUS operates with two parallel runways, capable of handling a wide range of commercial aircraft. The airport is owned and operated by the City of Austin and continues to undergo expansion to meet the demands of the region's rapidly growing population and economy.
