Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is the head church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. It is the largest Catholic church in Pennsylvania.
Built between 1846 and 1864, the cathedral features a Roman-Corinthian style with a massive brownstone facade and a copper dome. It was modeled after the Lombard Church of St. Charles in Rome.
The interior is adorned with marble columns, stained glass windows, and murals. The great dome creates a spacious and awe-inspiring atmosphere for worship.
The cathedral houses the shrine of Saint Katharine Drexel, a Philadelphia native and the second American-born saint. Her remains were transferred to the cathedral in 2018.
