Lick Observatory is an astronomical observatory located on the summit of Mount Hamilton, east of San Jose. Founded in 1888, it is owned and operated by the University of California and was the first permanently occupied mountaintop observatory.
The observatory features several telescopes, including the historic Great Lick Refractor. It continues to be an active research facility and offers visitor programs and star gazing events.
