Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest science and energy national laboratory in the Department of Energy system. Located near Oak Ridge, it conducts cutting-edge research in materials, neutron science, energy, and supercomputing.
While a secure facility, public bus tours (organized by AMSE) visit the Graphite Reactor and other historical sites. General public access to research areas is restricted.
Tours are seasonal and require U.S. citizenship and advance registration. The main lab is a secure government facility.
