Houston, Texas
Lake Houston is a reservoir on the San Jacinto River, located about 15 miles northeast of downtown Houston. It serves as the primary source of drinking water for the city.
The lake is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and waterfowl hunting. While swimming is allowed, there are no designated beaches, so most activity is boat-based.
At the northern end lies Lake Houston Wilderness Park, the only park in the Houston Parks system that allows overnight camping. It offers cabins, hiking trails, and kayaking.
The area provides a natural escape from the urban environment. It supports a variety of wildlife and offers scenic views of the wooded shoreline.
