Las Vegas, Nevada
Hoover Dam is a colossal concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Constructed during the Great Depression, it was a massive engineering effort that controlled floods, provided irrigation water, and produced hydroelectric power. The dam created Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States by volume.
A National Historic Landmark, Hoover Dam attracts nearly a million visitors annually who come to tour the power plant and marvel at the massive structure. It remains a symbol of American industrial capability and plays a crucial role in water and power management for the Southwest.
